It would be great to have a contact list inside Missive with some custom fields, like full name, email address, phone number and some others (customer ID as a string, bullets, dropdown menus, tags, etc.).
I would like to create a new contact when I receive an email inside Missive. Some fields, like full name and email address, could be populated automatically. This list could be synced with other services like Gmail Contacts, or could be made available for import and export in a csv file.
There was a topic on a sidebar with additional information about a sender. It would be great to see there an information about a contact from the contact list, with custom fields and previous communications.
Also you could add comments and tasks to contacts.

Hi there. Great feature. Apparently, it's been around since before I started using Missive. I would have been using this rather than my CRM. Can we please have an option to show the Contacts list in the sidebar menu?
The Shortcut is good, but still not good enough. To be honest, I could sell Missive to my clients if this Contacts Feature was added to the sidebar. Most users will completely miss this actually if its not visible by-default with their inboxes. Having the contacts there would make Missive much more user friendly.
Also, I would add a function in the Android & iOS Apps that requests permission to import contacts from their phones to further streamline this process.
If Missive did this, I could easily have my client switch away from their current Chat SaaS which they are paying $50-$100 per month for, and just have them use the Missive Chat.

One click to access contacts would make me smile :)

Russell Kempster: At the moment you can use the keyboard shortcut:
Mac: Cmd + Shift + , (comma)
Windows: Ctrl + Shift + , (comma)
Russell Kempster
Rafael Masson: Love the quick reply :) Just tried, not getting any response :( Mac: Cmd + Shift + , (comma)

Russell Kempster: Oh, sorry. You must be using Missive in the browser. A few keyboard shortcuts, including this one, only work in our desktop app: https://missiveapp.com/download
Russell Kempster
Rafael Masson: Thanks Raf! Downloading now. My team is hot to trot and switch over to Missive, the only question is - is it possible to import email conversation history extracted from helpscout?
Thanks Raf!
Rafael Masson
Russell Kempster: Yes, this was answered here: https://missive.canny.io/feature-requests/p/new-contact-book-feedback

Thank you guys, well done, thank you. This is what we were waiting for to switch to Missive. Congrats, thank you for your hard work!

Wow! But how do we "import Google" (and add other functionality) like the email said? Not sure where to do that. Is there an article?
Etienne Lemay
Steve Rice: You first need to create a contact book, then at the bottom there’s an Import option in the options button
Steve Rice
Etienne Lemay: Thank you. But do you have an article or can you point me to an article on how to import contacts from Google/GSuite?
Etienne Lemay
Steve Rice: We’re working on guide entries for that as we speak. You need to export a list of contacts from https://contacts.google.com, you should see the export option on the left.
Steve Rice
Etienne Lemay: Thank you Etienne. What a great idea.

Etienne Lemay: Amazing!
Is it possible to import from xero (accounting software)?
Etienne Lemay
justin lovell: The CSV format required to import contacts is currently pretty strict (Gmail or Outlook format). You could give Xero a shot (if they do export CSV) and see if that works. If it doesn’t, you can send us the CSV so we can look into supporting their format.

Etienne Lemay: Perfect! Thank you

Etienne Lemay: For me doesn't work import from CSV. I've tested export CSV from vorious Google/Gsuite acounts. I've tested export in Google CSV and Outlook CSV. I've tested desktop and web versions, but result the same - Unsuported file type
Etienne Lemay
Evaldas Mikelevičius: Sorry about that, there was an issue with Windows. There’s a new update available already, could try again? I see that in your message however the detected file type is empty, it’s possible this will still not work.
If it doesn’t: Can you validate that your file has the proper .csv extension?
Evaldas Mikelevičius
Etienne Lemay: Thanks. It is not urgent. I've tested with a new version v8.21.2, but the same. CSV I've exprted from Google contacts. Maybe can I send you mytest.csv file?
Evaldas Mikelevičius
@Etienne Lemay this is link to my test.csv with an one test contact. File I've exported from Gsuite account - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1n2asse6wchkmkmlf2FjSh8eqs9ADL-Ec/view
Etienne Lemay
Evaldas Mikelevičius: Thanks! It does work on my end. I’m pretty sure that it’s because you don’t have any default application to handle this kind of files (CSV) on Windows, is that correct?
We’re going to remove the file type check we do, Windows isn’t very friendly when it comes down to this kind of thing. We’ll be doing yet another quick update, sorry about that.
Evaldas Mikelevičius
Etienne Lemay: I don't have Microsoft Office. Default app on my pc for CSV is LibreOffice. Thanks :)
Evaldas Mikelevičius
Etienne Lemay Later I'll check on my Mac
Etienne Lemay
Evaldas Mikelevičius: That’s ok, we’ve just released a new update that completely removes the file type checking. Should be working on all platforms now. Sorry again.
Evaldas Mikelevičius
Etienne Lemay: Already I've imported contacts on Windows. Thanks for quick support!

Maybe also a TAG for the types of contacts
Chuck Lobaugh
In a new received email, right click on the from senders to add to the contacts (a quick check to see if the person was already in contacts would be performed).
Chuck Lobaugh
Right clicking on the from sender would also be great for creating a label/tag and/or rule.

It would be awesome if there were a way to regularly pull data from outside sources (e.g., AirTable-based CRM through a Zapier connection?) to populate the contact fields.

please consider 'email merge' / 'bulk emailing' / mass email function when you designing the contact list function. thank you
Daniel Picon
sean lu: I would also love this option. Of course taking into consideration the limits imposed by the accounts we are syncing with Missive. We sync our business Missive Google accounts and we can potentially bulk email a not so large group of contacts, if this would be built into Missive like Sean described it. It would be amazing.
