Better Search Function
Mitch Schwartz
especially searching for emails. Search seems to be sort by oldest match which is opposite of what is wanted. Rarely do I get the email I wanted as the first or second suggestion.

I wish I could upvote this again. Search needs help!

The search function is extremely frustrating; it really isn't up to par. I can't understand why there isn't an option to search for an exact phrase (a full sentence) – the search only works word by word. Could you implement this feature soon, like how it works on Google when you use quotation marks?
It would also be helpful to refine searches by sender, recipient, subject, or within the body of the message. Currently, it searches everywhere, resulting in way too many results to be useful.
If anyone has a brilliant idea... there are tons of posts on this subject, and it's been going around for almost a year. I have no idea when Missive will decide to address this issue (which, for me, is THE BIGGEST DRAWBACK of this tool).

This is very much needed!

Would love better search. I find that unless the search term is correct and complete, I get nothing.
EG. Just searched for a name with a spelling that I wasn't sure of, and apparently the first name and the first 3 letters of the surname wasn't enough to provide any results. It had to be the full and correct spelling of the surname.
Just searching for the first name did bring up some results, but it's a common first name.

I highly second that. Search in Missive is completely unusable if a conversation contains more than a few messages, as the message we are searching for may be completely buried within many. I always have to keep Thunderbird open (with Global Search) just for this purpose :/.
The functionality was very slightly improved by changing the border of the messages with the searched text in yellow, but it is really insufficient.
To fix this, please simply collapse all messages from a conversation that aren't relevant to the searched string, so by default we can only see those that are currently bordered in yellow. You can then add a toggle to expand or re-collapse all the initially collapsed messages (those inbetween those in yellow that don't match the search string). This will make the relevant individual messages immediately stand out when searching them, while preserving the ability to then see the whole surrounding conversation as needed.
Please also highlight the searched tokens in yellow inside each individual message so we can immediately locate them (maybe with a toggle to unhighlight them).
Missive has the potential to do much better than both Thunderbird and Gmail.
Once a semantic search functionality is implemented, the same UX could be used (instead of highlighting exact words in yellow, the matched approximate sequence could be highlighted with a different color).

The search is awful. I need to keep Gmail open to search emails which is plain absurd.

we do face the same issues: we would just need the option to search in the subject or email address/ at the moment absolutely useless search function

Search search search. This is being echoed by everyone using missive. Please work on this as a priority

When I search shelterinstitute in Missive it only brings results from past . I then use gmail and it brings up the last email sent yesterday.
This happens quite a lot the search on Missive is quite bad and works if it matches exactly or if it is very closed matched.
They need to come up with their own search algorithm or better get a service that it does it for them.
